NEW OCEAN GROUP is a leading calcium carbide supplier, specializing in premium 0.5-3mm calcium carbide for industrial and chemical applications. Our finely graded CaC₂ granules ensure fast reaction rates, high acetylene yield, and consistent performance, making them ideal for welding, metal cutting, and PVC synthesis.
Size:
0.5-3mm
Product Advantages:
High gas yield, High purity, Stable performance, and Safety in use
Application
(1) The main raw material for producing acetylene gas.
(2) Cutting and welding for metal material
(3) To synthesize polyvinyl chloride (PVC)
(4) Fruit Catalyst
(5) The desulfurizer in steel industry
0.5-3mm calcium carbide (CaC₂) is a granular form of calcium carbide, optimized for rapid acetylene gas generation. Compared to larger sizes like 25-50mm calcium carbide, our 0.5-3mm granules offer:
Faster reaction time – Smaller particles increase surface area, improving efficiency.
Higher gas yield – Produces 290-300L of acetylene per 1kg (vs. 270-280L for 5-15mm).
Easier handling – Ideal for portable acetylene generators and laboratory use.
We ensure >80% purity with low phosphine/sulfide content for safer operations.
Engineered for precise pneumatic injection and rapid kinetic chemical reaction. 100% Nitrogen-flushed hermetic packaging to eliminate oxidation and caking hazards.
Unlike large lumps that react gradually, 0.5–3mm granules offer a massive surface-area-to-mass ratio. This dimension is specifically manufactured for industrial applications where instant, complete chemical contact is required.
Ladle Furnace Desulfurization: Penetrates fluid steel slag rapidly, binding sulfur into CaS within seconds to maximize steel purity in Electric Arc Furnaces (EAF).
Controlled Gas Phase Synthesis: Provides precision-metered acetylene feed rates for organic intermediate production without temperature spikes.
Smooth Pneumatic Conveying: Uniformly screened to prevent nozzle clogging in automated injection lances.
| Technical Parameter | Standard Value | Buyer Benefit |
| Target Particle Size | 0.5 – 3.0 mm (≥ 90% in-range) | No oversized stones to jam injection lances |
| Guaranteed Gas Yield | ≥ 280 - 295 L/kg | High acetylene output optimized for metallurgical use |
| Fines Content (<0.5mm) | ≤ 5% strictly controlled | Drastically reduces dust explosion risks during handling |
| Phosphine (PH3) / Hydrogen Sulfide (H2S) | PH3 ≤ 0.08%, H2S ≤ 0.10% | Protects high-grade steel from re-contamination |
Fine carbide granules absorb ambient moisture exponentially faster than lumps. To guarantee 24-month shelf life without degradation, we employ a strict hazardous packing protocol:
Vacuum Nitrogen Purging: Every 50kg/100kg steel drum undergoes high-vacuum air extraction followed by a 99.9% pure dry nitrogen gas fill.
Heavy-Duty Moisture Liners: Internal high-density polyethylene (HDPE) barrier sealed with heavy-duty steel locking rings (UN 1402 Class 4.3 certified).

Precautions
Inspection upon Receipt
-Upon receipt of Calcium Carbide, check the barrels and pay attention to moisture protection (for example, snow and ice should be removed before storage).
-Check for signs of swelling, heat, or mechanical damage.
Handling Hot Drums
-If a drum is hot, do not cool it with water, and do not move the drum until it hascooled completely.
-The area should be cordoned off, and entry restricted until the drum cools.
Opening the Drum
-Use non-sparking tools (e.g,, brass hammer) to open the drum in a designatedarea.
-Ensure drums are opened only immediately before the calcium carbide is requiredfor use.
Personal ProtectiveEquipment
-Wear personal protective equipment (PpE), including gloves, helmets, and faceshields when opening drums and handling calcium carbide.
Transferring Calcium Carbide
- Use a charging skip or specialized transfer equipment, ensuring proper groundingduring transfer.
-All transfer tools should be equipped with gas-purging systems and anti-staticproperties.
Cleaning up Spillage
-Use natural fiber brooms and non-sparking tools to sweep up any spillage during transfer.
-Calcium carbide dust should be disposed of safely.
